Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Awarded AFIS Machine
From the desk of Sheriff Scott Bradley
(AFIS) defined as: Automated Fingerprint Identification System: a computerized methodology used to analyze digitized images of individual fingerprints and compare them to a database of stored images, in search of a potential exact or partial match.
Several months ago I received a call from the Arkansas State Police, informing me the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office had been awarded an AFIS machine . I had discussed this in the past with State officials and must have captured their ear. Several other counties will also be receiving an AFIS Machine form the State. About two weeks ago we received our AFIS machine and are currently utilizing its capabilities.
With this state of the art technology we are able to fingerprint a person and photograph that person in a much more efficient way. This new AFIS machine will get fingerprint results back quicker than having to wait on the mail form the old ink card way of fingerprinting. This will let us know if person is wanted elsewhere in the United States and even the world if that person’s fingerprints are in the FBI database. The Federal Bureau of Investigation maintains a nationwide database of person’s who have been fingerprinted from Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement. It will also make fingerprint background checks faster for teachers, medical field personnel, or any others needing a background check.
This new addition to or agency will be a great asset to us and the people of Van Buren County.
