Shooting in Alread leads to arrest

From the desk of Sheriff Scott Bradley

On Saturday, April 12, The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department received a call for service that resulted in a man shooting his wife.  The 911 call, phoned in by a neighbor, explained that the suspect had phoned him to report the incident.  Deputies, assisted by Arkansas State Police responded to 17614 Hwy 16 West to find Patty Reahard, the victim lying near the front door with a gunshot wound to her upper back.  The suspect was still on the scene and was quickly apprehended with out a struggle.

Mark Reahard, 57, of Alread was arrested and transported to the Van Buren County Detention center.  Investigators with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division processed the crime scene the next morning via search warrant.  Mr. Reahard is facing charges of First Degree Battery and is awaiting bond hearing at the time of this release.
