From the desk of Sheriff Scott Bradley

The Van Buren County Sheriffs Department with the assistance of the Arkansas Game and Fish is conducting an investigation involving the killing of a mule in the Hwy 254 area.

A resident in the 1400 block of Hwy 254 reported that some time after midnight on October 16, 2013 a person fired one shot from the hwy into his pasture.  When the reporting party was awakened by the shot, he saw what looked to be a flatbed truck with lights to the rear and toward the cab traveling west on Hwy 254.  The person(s) continued to shine a bright light into the field on the opposite side of the road.

The next morning, the owner noticed that his mule, valued at $2,000, did not come up with the rest of the horses and mules.  He found his mule dead about 200 yards from the hwy.

Van Buren County Investigators and AGFC Officers processed the scene and developed items of evidence.  The mule had been shot one time in its rear end.

Van Buren County Sheriff Scott Bradley is offering a $1000 cash reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.  Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to call 745-3838.  All leads will remain confidential.
