Shooting Solved, one arrested

In the early morning hours of March 1, 2013,  Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a person traveling north on Hwy 65 who had been shot.  Cody Horton, ofMarshallwas traveling home just north ofClintonwhen he heard a loud “boom” and a sharp pain in the back of his neck.  Mr. Horton stopped his vehicle just south of theNaturalBridgeroad where responding Deputies were dispatched.  Mr. Horton’s vehicle appeared to have a bullet hole in the back glass on the driver’s side.  The bullet appeared to have traveled through the head rest, through Mr. Horton’s clothing where it struck him in the back of his neck.  Mr. Horton was transported to Ozark Health where he was treated and later released.

  The Arkansas State Police assisted the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department with the subsequent investigation that led to the arrest of Samuel Gates, 44, ofClinton.  Mr. Gates is facing several Felony charges in connection with the incident.  Mr. Gates is currently being held at the Van Buren County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
