05/21/2011 Clinton man arrested after accident and fleeing on foot.

On 05/21/2011 at approximately 4:00 PM, Deputy Chad Mason of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles Alexander Williams, age 29 of Clinton for misdemeanor DWI, speeding, no proof of liability insurance, fleeing on foot, careless and prohibitive driving, and driving on suspended driver license. Mason reported while on State Highway 16 E in Shirley near Tarkington Road, he was attempting a traffic stop on Black Toyota pickup with the driver not wearing a seat belt and driving at a high rate of speed. Mason report the vehicle made and abrupt left turn and struck another vehicle. Mason reported a male subject got out of the vehicle and fled into the woods. Mason reported after checking the welfare of occupants of the other vehicle, calling for First Responders and an ambulance, Mason said he pursued the male subject into the woods. Mason said he caught up with the male subject and arrested him with no incident. Williams is currently incarcerated with bond of $2605.00.
