04/12/2011 Scam in the Cullum Lane area.
From the desk of Sheriff Scott Bradley
A resident on Cullum Lane in the Choctaw area reported that an unknown man came in their residence uninvited to do some “measuring” for home improvements. Once inside, the white male, described to be approximately 50 yrs old, 5’8” and 200lbs asked several questions about money and finances of the victim. The suspect went as far as using a tape measure to measure rooms and promise to be able to provide some sort of monthly check from the Government if the homeowner qualified. When the homeowner became suspicious, the suspect left in a white truck, possibly a Cheverolet.
At the time of the initial report, the victim didn’t notice anything missing but later discovered a lockbox had been taken. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department is offering a $500 reward for information in this case. All leads will be kept confidential.
