On June 8, 2011, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence in Shirley for a Residential Burglary. Bobby Jones, 46, of Shirley reported that sometime that day someone had burglarized his home. Deputies found several broken items outside the residence as well as several items vandalized inside the residence.

Investigators developed a suspect early in the investigation and found the suspects vehicle wrecked and abandoned in the area. A search warrant was sought for and received for the suspect vehicle. Inside the vehicle were several items that belonged to Bobby Jones.

Gary Edwards Smith, 34, of Shirley was charged with Residential Burglary and Theft of Property in connection with the crime. Edwards is currently being held at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department on $10,000 bond.
