From the desk of Sheriff Scott Bradley

On August 10, 2010 Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a gunshot that later resulted in a fatality off of Glendenning Road in the Culpepper area.  Deputies arrived to find that James Salinas, 42 had been shot.  Fred Hiatt, 63, of Culpepper and James Salinas had been at the residence for a short time when an altercation between the two men started.  Witnesses reported hearing a lot of yelling just before hearing a single gunshot.

The Arkansas State Police was called to assist in the investigation that is still on going  Mr. Salinas body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime lab for examination.  Criminal charges could be filed pending the outcome of this investigation.
